Big 12 All-Defensive Team, voted by conference coaches
Justin Mason, our Director of Basketball, was a three-year captain and four-year starter for the University of Texas. He coaches teams himself every season and sets the standard our staff coaches to.
How we defend

We play man-to-man.
Every team, every game.

A zone hides weak defenders. Man-to-man does not. We play it at every grade level, which costs us games early, and it is why our players can defend when they reach high school.

Justin was a two-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, voted by the conference's coaches. The defense we teach is the defense he played.

What we do

What you can expect

Sportsmanship is evaluated

Coaches assess drill skills, scrimmage play, and sportsmanship. How a player carries himself counts.

A director who still coaches

Justin coaches two teams himself each season and is in other teams' gyms through the week.

11 players, maximum

Rosters are capped so every player gets coached, every session. No one is carried along.

Seen by more than one coach

No player's tryout rests on a single opinion. Evaluations are logged in real time, on the floor.

Justin Mason

Three-year captain and four-year starter at Texas. Third all-time in games played, second in games started. He led the Longhorns to four NCAA tournaments, a Big 12 title, and the only No. 1 ranking in school history.

"The players who last aren't the ones who could always score. They're the ones who learned how to work."
The path

A place to start, and somewhere to go

Fall and winter run 2nd through 8th grade. In spring we field teams through 11th grade at three levels, so a player who starts with us in elementary school has somewhere to go every year.

Local

8–10 tournaments, all in the Austin area. Where every player starts, including 2nd grade.

Regional

10–12 tournaments, with 2–3 outside Austin in San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston.

National

The regional schedule plus an out-of-state tournament against national competition.

Spring fees cover coaches' travel and hotels for tournaments outside Austin.

Is this the right fit?

Who this program is for

One fee covers uniforms, facilities, coaching, tournament entry, and insurance. It also covers coaches' travel for spring teams competing outside Austin. No fees are added mid-season. Here is who the program fits.

A good fit if

Your son wants to get better, not just play games

You can commit to two practices a week plus tournament weekends

You want fundamentals before results

Probably not if

You're looking for a recreational league

Tournament weekends won't work for your family

Guaranteed equal playing time is the priority
