Most of what a program tells you about itself is a claim. This section is the teaching instead, written out the way our coaches say it on the floor, so you can judge it rather than take our word for it.
It covers boys in 2nd through 11th grade, which is the full range our teams run across the year.
Most of our teams spend the first three or four weeks of practice only on defense. These two pages are what that time is spent on.
A possession is three separate moments and each one has its own rule. Pressure, riding the bull once he gets a step, and the chest at the rim. Plus why we force baseline, and the closeout error we correct most.
How five players work together. On the ball, one pass away, two passes away, and the white line that help side is measured from. Every possession ends with a box out.
Every practice opens with form shooting. Hand placement first, then balance, eye and elbow. When two-ball starts, and why a shooter makes the rest of the game simple.
For parents rather than players. Why what a boy learns to do without thinking at 8 is close to permanent at 14, and what that does and does not mean for your family.
Our Director of Basketball served as team captain for the University of Texas Longhorns for three years and started for four. He was a two-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, voted by the conference's coaches, and earned or shared his team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player award in each of his first three seasons. He coaches two teams himself every season.
Tryout dates and registration are on tryouts.
